Tom Keane is the founder of Keane Safety Improvement Ltd specializing in Behavioural Safety.
His career started in the Fire Service (UK) in 1977 and served in several posts including Operational Fire fighter, Recruit and Officer Training, Operational Watch Commander and Brigade Staff Officer.
Tom is a Graduate of the Institute of Fire Engineers. With over thirteen years of experience in emergency response; he witnessed first hand many tragic results of unsafe behaviours.
He moved into the Offshore Oil Industry in 1990, initially providing training in command and control of major incidents and emergency response. He then moved into an operational position as an offshore Safety Advisor at the same time studied at Aston University for a Post Graduate Diploma in Risk Assessment and Safety Technology.
He introduced a Behavioural Programme to the BP Forties group of platforms, which resulted in a dramatic improvement to safety performance; he then managed the Safety Development Workgroup within BP Forties, which focused on practical implementation of Task Based Risk Assessment, Behavioural Safety and Incident Investigation.
When BP started global implementation of a behavioural programme, Tom was the internal ‘Master’ trainer and helped to implement the programme worldwide.
Since leaving BP, Tom has worked as an independent consultant, working with BP, Marathon oil, VECO Construction (Alaska), BP Solar (India), Coca-cola (UK), AIOC (Azerbaijan) ADCO (UAE) ESNAAD (UAE), CNR (Canadian National Resources) and Stolt Offshore (UK)
